Actions: Antimicrobial, Antibacterial, Antiviral, Anti-inflammatory, Astringent, Mucous membrane tonic, Hepatic stimulant, Bitter digestive stimulant, Hemostatic, Immune-enhancing. Known to stimulate bile flow and digestive secretions, support liver detoxification, and enhance immune response during acute infections. It may also be applied topically for infected wounds or fungal skin conditions. Internally, it is used for infections particularly when excess mucus is present. Additionally, it is known to support the health and function of mucous membranes.*

Caution: Excessive use may overly dry or irritate mucous membranes. Wild populations are at risk, so only cultivated sources should be used, and alternatives such as Oregon Grape (Mahonia spp.) should be considered.
