Actions: Demulcent, Emollient, Anti-inflammatory, Vulnerary, Soothing expectorant, Cooling diuretic. Known to soothe dry, irritated lungs and ease coughs; calms inflammation in the bladder and urinary tract; coats and protects the gut lining in cases of irritation or inflammation; and is helpful topically in compresses or poultices for dry, irritated, or inflamed skin.*

Caution: Generally considered very safe, including for children and during pregnancy. It may slow the absorption of medications due to its mucilage coating, so it is best taken 1–2 hours apart from other remedies.
